Dell’s new laptop was made to be as premium as possible without breaking the bank, especially for young workers.

Finding affordable, quality computers these days is getting tricky due to rising part costs driven by the ongoing global memory shortage. Dell made a commitment at CES a few months ago to deliver new XPS computers with accessible pricing despite this shortage, and their answer to that commitment is the new XPS 13 they revealed today. This laptop is priced at $699 USD, but a special student discount brings the price down to $599 USD.

The XPS 13 features a 13-inch 2.5K touchscreen display with a variable refresh rate ranging from 30 Hz to 120 Hz and full DCI-P3 coverage, matching the colour standard used in professional film and photography. The laptop also includes Wi-Fi 7 support for seamless streaming on up to 17 hours of battery life. Dell specifically designed the XPS 13 to be as easy to carry as possible, with a 12.7mm-thin aluminum body weighing 1 kg, available in either a Sky- or Storm-themed finish.

The normal processor used in the XPS 13 is the Intel Core Series 3, but there will be an option to upgrade post-launch to an Ultra Series 3 processor, including up to 32 GB of RAM on a LPDDR5X stick and 1 TB of storage. We don’t currently have the exact specs for the RAM and storage of the base XPS 13.

The Sky-themed XPS 13 with Intel Core Series processors will be rolling out in the United States sometime in June, with a base price of $699 USD. A special discounted price of $599 USD is available for students aged 16 and older and for college students at degree-granting schools. The laptops with the Ultra Series 3 processors and Storm theme will be coming later in the summer.
