It’s time to revisit the topic of artificial intelligence. Nearly all major video game companies have adopted this technology to varying degrees. For its part, Capcom has fully embraced the technology and is applying it to a wide range of tasks.
During Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas, Shinichi Inoue, Vice President of Game Development Platform and AI Solutions at Capcom, gave a lengthy statement on the subject. He began by emphasizing that players’ favorite games are already designed with the help of artificial intelligence.
He also detailed how AI is used at Capcom, and why it will never replace human expertise.
“AI is developing rapidly, and its intelligence continues to improve. It sometimes outperforms most humans, and I even feel that it has surpassed the best of them.
Furthermore, what we in the entertainment industry consider paramount when it comes to this intelligence is sensitivity. Even the most advanced AI still falls short of our creators in terms of sensitivity. Consequently, prioritizing sensitivity is more effective for optimizing human resource management and is also essential for effective collaboration with creators.”
Finally, Inoue gave a concrete example regarding the application of AI within the company.
“The AI transmits its results to a verification agent, but instead of leaving this task to humans, an agent who verifies the director’s concept evaluates it first. A large number of these verifications and evaluations are carried out while humans are sleeping. Then, the AI eliminates the elements most likely to deviate from the game’s concept and presents them as a general framework. This gives the impression that the AI has checked everything in advance, and humans don’t have to do a significant amount of verification work.”
