Borderlands 4 Is Getting Clobbered On Steam With Negative Reviews

Borderlands 4 has been one of the most anticipated games of the year. It launched on Steam earlier this week with over 175,000 concurrent players. However, the game’s negative reviews on Steam are also piling up, and the most common complaints come down to Borderlands 4’s poor performance on PC.

Steam user Satan Claus calls Borderlands 4 the “unholy trio of pricing, UE5, and Denuvo.” Although Satan Claus calls the title “the best Borderlands since 2”–with praise for the writing, gunplay, and the world–he added that “none of that matters when you can’t play for more than ten minutes without a hitch, a crash, or your frames falling off a cliff. It’s like locking a gourmet meal behind a glass case and handing us a plastic fork.”

Rej cited Borderlands 4’s “terrible optimization” and noted that it’s “not worth buying in its current state unless you have a NASA PC.” Nate left a positive review, but still felt the need to mention that “it really is [frustrating] when even me with a 4070ti super can barely get 60 fps with upscaling. This is a cartoon game. Fix optimization with a few updates and I think this could be really good. But wow, this may be some of the worst optimization ever.”
