Borderlands 4 Developer Addresses Lack of Field of View Slider on Consoles

While Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 has had the series’ biggest launch on Steam thus far, there have been a fair number of complaints about its performance. Console versions have especially suffered due to the lack of a field of view slider and the option to turn motion blur off.

On Twitter, CEO Randy Pitchford polled users, asking whether they would prefer an FoV slider on consoles. The results are overwhelmingly positive in favor of the same, but he mentioned “some dreams” where it could affect “fairness.” “I can’t really talk about it yet, but I see this is important to you, so we’re looking at it.”

In a follow-up, Pitchford added, “Be aware – you have no idea what the team and I were planning and how the FOV slider might affect fairness with such a thing. That said, I’ve always wanted to commit to and prioritise what Borderlands should be versus try to turn it into something it should. My hope is for my/our ambitions to be additive, not subtractive.”

Of course, there’s still no ETA on when an FoV slider will arrive for consoles, but at the very least, Gearbox may start looking into it. Whether it arrives in time for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which launches on October 3rd, also remains to be seen.

Borderlands 4 is available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. It peaked at nearly 289,000 concurrent players on Steam over the weekend, though sales numbers remain unknown. Check out our review, where we rated it an eight out of ten.
