Black Ops and Black Ops II are being ported to PS4 and PS5

Treyarch have announced, rather quietly via a tweet, that the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II are being ported to PlayStation 4 and 5.

Now I know what you are thinking, Microsoft own Activision, so why on earth are they porting old COD games just to PlayStation 5? Well, you can already play them on Xbox backwards compatibility, and Treyarch are not handling ports. Instead,  Iron Galaxy, a team who have previously worked with Sony porting Uncharted and The Last of Us to PC, will be doing the work.

It’s also worth emphasising that these are being announced as ports, not remakes or remasters,. Black Ops and Black Ops II will be available in July and will feature the full package of a single player campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes. The price was not revealed.

It’s a rather odd announcement, given that Xbox is trying to claw back exclusives and that you can’t play the games on current-gen PlayStation, it does mean BLOPS and BLOPS 2 are sort of exclusive to Xbox.
