It turns out that Baldur’s Gate 3 has a handy weapon trick that it’s hiding from you, and it took one player 2,000 hours to discover.
Larian Studios is a developer known for putting in massive amounts of hidden secrets into its games, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is probably the poster child for this tactic.
Even after 2,000 hours of playing the game, there are still some features and tricks that can elude you. And that’s exactly what one player discovered recently during their current playthrough.
As posted on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit page, user Acceptable_Account_2 discovered a trick that allows you to duplicate weapons if you have Shadowheart in your active party.
It essentially works by casting a spell that allows her to duplicate herself, and then you can disarm the duplicate to get a copy of the weapon she’s holding.
“Apparently you can have Shadowheart cast Invoke Duplicity and then disarm the illusory copy of herself with a Battlemaster’s “Disarming Attack” (and I assume other things that disarm people) and duplicate Shadowheart’s weapon,” the OP wrote. “I had assumed that kind of stuff was patched out long ago.”
However, the OP was also hesitant to call this useful. “I can’t think of anything this really unlocks,” they continued in the thread. “It’s a little too slow to do to sell the weapons for money.
“I suppose that there are few enough good Staffs that I could duplicate Meff’s First Staff of Markoeshkir. Or duplicate some Finesse two hand weapons to get a Dex Paladin and a Dex Battlemaster going. Or maybe give everyone a pair of Knives of the Undermountain King. At any rate, I have two Spellsparklers now.”

Another commenter in the replies responded with an even more efficient way to duplicate weapons.
“On keyboard-mouse controls it’s possible to just drag n drop weapon or any piece of equipment from illusory copy into your inventory with a good sleight of hand,” wrote user lazyzefiris. “You have like a 0.3 of a second to grab it after clicking the eye icon in the character view panel. People duplicate all kinds of stuff with it.”
Well, there you have it. If you didn’t know that, you do now. If you fancied getting a duplicate of a certain weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3, these are a few tricks to try and do it.
