
Publisher Atari made a small acquisition this week. Launched in 1981, the Wizardry RPG franchise is a true legend, even though it has faded somewhat into the background today.
Atari has nevertheless decided to acquire the rights to the first five installments of the series. The company now owns Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (1981), Wizardry II: The Knight of Diamonds (1982), Wizardry III: Legacy of Llylgamyn (1983), Wizardry IV: The Return of Werdna (1987), and Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom (1988).
Note that the next three installments still belong to the Japanese company Drecom. Atari may decide to release the other five titles on modern platforms to allow a new audience to discover them.
