In an interview with GamerBraves on YouTube, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Remake, made a very interesting revelation.
He said that there are young devs working for Square Enix now. Among the titles highly regarded by these newcomers is Final Fantasy XIII, which was heavily criticized when it was released in 2009.
“Recently, the company has grown and evolved with the arrival of new employees, and it continues to expand. The young people who are joining us no longer talk about Final Fantasy VI, but rather Final Fantasy XIII, their favorite. I really feel the passage of time.”
Regarding Final Fantasy VI, Hamaguchi also commented on a possible remake. In particular, he stated that he did not want to lead such a project.
“I’ve received many requests from fans for a remake of Final Fantasy VI. But since I’ve been involved in the Final Fantasy VII remake project for about ten years, from start to finish, and we’re finally seeing the end of it…
So, rather than taking on another remake project myself, I would prefer to see a new creator come in and become a supporter to encourage them, rather than being the one to lead a new remake project.”

It’s great to see that Final Fantasy XIII holds such a special place at Square Enix. The insights from Naoki Hamaguchi are always intriguing, especially when it comes to the legacy of these beloved games. Looking forward to more discussions like this!
