At first, Resident Evil Requiem was a much less scary game

In a recent interview, Masato Kumazawa, the producer of Resident Evil Requiem, revealed something we already knew. Initially, this ninth installment was a multiplayer title whose development began about six years ago.

In addition to this interview, insider Dusk Golem shared other tidbits on the project. According to him, pre-production began in 2018. Back when it was conceived as a multiplayer title, Requiem was intended to be more entertaining and less scary. The devs ultimately decided that fans would not be satisfied with this version. However, some elements have been retained in the game, which will be released next February.

Finally, the interview reveals that Capcom wanted to add the character of Grace Ashcroft to welcome new players, all while maintaining a link with Raccoon City.

Absolutely! It’s fascinating to see how game development can shift based on feedback and creative direction. The evolution of tone might also reflect changes in player expectations, as horror games have become more immersive and intense over the years.
