Assassin’s Creed Studio Drops Free New Mode For Hit 2023 Release

A massive free mode for one of 2023’s sleeper hits from Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft is quite literally a game-changer.

The year 2023 was arguably one of the greatest times for video game releases, whether it was a first-party big hitter, a third-party delight or an indie darling, that year was absolutely overpowered. In fact, 2023 was such a great year that tons of fantastic games would have flown under many radars.

Just a few games that come to mind which launched in 2023 include the Resident Evil 4 remake, Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and much more.

Seriously, I could be here all day listing the awesome games that were released in 2023, but there’s still a good chance that I’d miss loads of fantastic titles.

One game in particular that may have gotten lost amongst the greatness that was 2023 is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.

In my review, I said: “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a surprise cherry on top of what has been a fantastic year for video games, and I encourage fans of the Avatar movies to put this unexpected, charming delight on your ever-expanding wishlist.”

Perhaps one of the most common complaints about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is that it can only be played in a first-person perspective. However, announced a short while ago, after listening to fan feedback, this action-adventure RPG will soon be playable in a third-person perspective.

We could discuss why it’s taken so long for the developers to give players this optional perspective, but not only will they have other projects in the works, it’s also not common for developers to add new perspectives post-launch.

Typically, whether it’s a first-person or third-person game, you’re stuck with the perspective that it launched with. So I tip my hat to the developers at Massive Entertainment. As they say, better late than never.

The additional third-person perspective for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will arrive courtesy of a free update on 5 December 2025, almost exactly two years from the game’s release date.

No doubt, the launch of this free update is to coincide with the release of the next movie in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which arrives in cinemas on 19 December 2025.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
