ARC Raiders was delayed because the game wasn’t fun

Here’s one of the most eagerly awaited free-to-play games of the year. During its playtests, ARC Raiders was widely praised by players. However, this kind of unanimity wasn’t always the case during development.

Initially conceived as an entirely PvE game, ARC Raiders changed course by opting for a PvPvE approach. In an interview with Edge Magazine, Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios, explained this turnaround.

“We loved every aspect of what we were trying to design. But after a while, we came to the conclusion: ‘Guys, this game isn’t fun.'”

Executive producer Aleksandr Grondal made the same observation, stating that there were fun moments, but a lack of consistency. The developers therefore changed their plans, and ARC Raiders is now scheduled for release on October 30, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
