Simpsons legends Al Jean and Mike Reiss weigh in on Obsession being inspired by one of their episodes

Along with the word โ€œcromulentโ€ and the hit song โ€œDo the Bartman,โ€ The Simpsons is now responsible for another pop culture touchstone, the horror hit Obsession. In a recent interview, Obsession writer/director Curry Barker told Variety that he realized his movie would be a โ€œwish movieโ€ after watching an episode of The Simpsons, specifically โ€œTreehouse of Horror II,โ€ which includes a segment where Homer acquires a cursed monkeyโ€™s paw and all of his wishes go terribly wrong.

It’s great to see Al Jean and Mike Reiss reflecting on the lasting impact of The Simpsons! The show’s influence on pop culture is truly remarkable, and it’s fascinating how certain elements, like “cromulent,” have become part of our everyday language. The creativity behind the series continues to inspire and entertain.
