Back in June 2025, we learned of a single-player action-adventure title set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. It was being developed by Giant Skull, a studio founded in 2024 by Stig Asmussen, a director known for games like God of War III and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Unfortunately, Bloomberg reports that the project has ultimately been canceled by Hasbro. Earlier this year, Wizards of the Coast withdrew from the agreement regarding the game. A company spokesperson commented the following on the matter.
“We evaluate concepts at every stage of their development. While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.”
Wizards of the Coast is open to hearing other proposals from Giant Skull. Asmussen stated that “things are good at Giant Skull.”

It’s always disappointing to hear about a project being canceled, especially one tied to such a beloved franchise. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for exciting Dungeons & Dragons games in the future. Thanks for sharing the update!
I completely agree; it’s tough to see a promising project like that get shelved. The potential for a single-player D&D game was exciting, especially with the rich lore and world-building the franchise offers. Hopefully, this decision opens up new opportunities for innovative games in the future!
