A Questionable Dark Souls Remake Claim Has the Entire Souls Community Talking

Dark Souls Trilogy To Get A Remake, A Claim States

Soulslike fans are buzzing over rumoured remakes for the iconic Dark Souls franchise, all stemming from one questionable post on X.

Dark Souls ignited the flame of a now-massive fanbase back when it released in 2011, shooting up the success of developer FromSoftware after their previous titles like Demon’s Souls and Armored Core received only normal attention for their time. Since the first game, Dark Souls II and III have followed, with similar experiences like Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice along the way, all culminating in the massive 2022 hit Elden Ring.

Nearly 15 years after Dark Souls and a decade after Dark Souls III, one gaming YouTuber claims a Dark Souls Trilogy Remake is in development. Though not out of the realm of possibility, considering the Demon’s Souls remake in 2020, Souls fans may want to be a bit skeptical with this report, or lack thereof.

Shirrako is a no-commentary gaming YouTuber with over 2.5 million subscribers. Their main content focus is on multiple-hour full video game walkthroughs, boss fights, and/or ending showcases. In a post on X made on May 3, Shirakko said, “Dark Souls Trilogy Remake in development. A reputable source from my mirror reports.”

That’s it. That is all Shirakko said, and apparently, that’s all they needed to say, as at the time of writing the post has nearly one million views, close to a thousand reposts, and multiple articles written about potential new Dark Souls remakes, with only this tweet as the source. Almost a day after posting their claim, Shirakko posted one more time, saying, “I love the internet,” so make of that what you will.

There are a few things to consider when talking about remakes for the Dark Souls trilogy. Yes, the franchise is massively successful and would certainly make publisher Bandai Namco a lot of money if they went through with the project. Who would develop them is the real question, as FromSoftware is working on Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, and Demon’s Souls remake studio Bluepoint Games was shut down by Sony this past March.

Bloodborne is also an important topic, as fans of the PlayStation 4 exclusive have been begging for a port or remake for years. With an animated adaptation of the game on the way, produced by iconic YouTuber JackSepticEye, there is more cause for a new Bloodborne title than one of the more easily accessible Dark Souls series.

There is nothing wrong with being hopeful, though, as a community, making enough noise about a requested title may bring fortune one day. Just be careful with any fan projects along the way.
