God of War: a dataminer thinks they’ve found clues about the next game

Recent news have reignited excitement around the God of War franchise. Before the return of Kratos’s early adventures via a remake of the original trilogy, Santa Monica Studios is expected to release a brand new episode.

While rumors suggest a possible journey into Egyptian mythology, narrative details about this future installment are currently very scarce. However, a data miner has stated on Reddit that they may have uncovered information about this as-yet-unannounced God of War game.

Files found in God of War Ragnarok reveal the presence of two hidden scenes. Since God of War (2018) also concealed content that turned out to be the introduction to Ragnarok (Atreus killing the bear and discovering Tyr), this user believes that his discovery could be the introduction to the next game.

First, there is a sequence with Athena talking about Odin and Atreus. She utters the phrase, « The white serpent will devour you », in front of beings from a higher plane. Referring to Odin, she declares, « One has betrayed us », and referring to Atreus, « One has rejected us ».

The second scene shows Atreus walking alongside a being named « Mau ». Like Groot in the MCU, Mau only speaks by saying the word « Mau ». Atreus seems to be able to understand him. Furthermore, in Egyptian, « Mau » means « cat » and is a manifestation of the sun god Ra. This would once again point to a possible story set in ancient Egypt.

As always, these elements should be taken with a grain of salt.
