Nintendo is seeking to crack down on emulators once again. Back in 2024, the Japanese company had already attacked and had Yuzu removed.
Now, a new DMCA notice has been sent to GitHub with the aim of removing repositories that still contain Yuzu. In addition, at least 12 other Switch emulators are targeted by a similar procedure.
The DMCA notice lists the emulators Citron, Eden, Kenji-NX, MeloNX, Pine, Pomelo, Ryubing, Ryujinx, Skyline, Sudachi, Sumi, Suyu, and Yuzu.
“Nintendo Switch emulators are primarily designed to play Nintendo Switch games. Specifically, these Nintendo Switch emulators illegally circumvent Nintendo’s technological protection measures and run illegal copies of Nintendo Switch games.”
The proceedings led to the disappearance of Citron and MeloNX, while Eden is attempting to resist. The creators of the latter have mentioned its upcoming closure on GitHub, but plan to make it available elsewhere since the source code is unaffected. This show of defiance will undoubtedly not please Nintendo.
Camille LaVey, the founder of Eden, explained this to the website Wccftech.
“Effectively, as founder of Eden, I can say that we want to keep continuing the work in the preservation of videogames, allowing game owners to benefit from this beyond their original hardware.
Since this is a community-driven project, we always look to provide the best result possible for all; yet, we’re never sure of what the future can bring, so we’re always trying to ask the community to help us in any way they can, so Eden can still be alive for the years to come.”
