After the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in 2008, the franchise could have taken a different turn. At the DICE Awards, Hideo Kojima revealed details about a project that was briefly considered at the time.
The Japanese creator revealed that he had discussed the possibility of designing a Metal Gear Solid FPS with Vince Zampella. Zampella, who died last December in a car accident, is known for co-founding Infinity Ward (Call of Duty) in 2002, then Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi) in 2010.
Hideo Kojima confirmed that he had “many discussions” with Vince Zampella after the release of the fourth installment of the Metal Gear Solid saga. Of course, the idea never materialized into an actual game.
