PC users can claim a GTA throwback that has a dose of The Elder Scrolls for free, but you need to act fast before it’s too late.
Sometimes, it’s easy to forget where Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series came from before the arrival of GTA III in 2001 on PlayStation 2.
When GTA III arrived, the Grand Theft Auto series was a very different prospect. Sure, it still gave you the freedom to commit silly crimes and cause all sorts of mayhem, but played from a top-down perspective, it was a far cry from the 3D, bustling open-worlds that we know of today.

The free game in question is called Rustler, developed by Jutsu Games and published by Modus Games, released in 2021. Oh, and this isn’t a free demo; this is the full game that you can claim right now. Check out the trailer below for silliness.

Rustler looks like it could be an absolute blast, with high-speed horse-and-carriage chases, silly dismemberment, explosions, cow-flinging, and much more. It all looks bonkers, and I think we all need a bit of bonkers in our lives now and again.
Where Can I Download Rustler for Free?
Rustler is free courtesy of Epic Games, and to claim it, you will need to download the Epic Games launcher on PC.
Once you’ve downloaded that, you’ll be able to claim free games currently available and those that are upcoming.
It is worth mentioning that Rustler isn’t going to be free forever, because on Thursday, 29 January 2026, it will return to its RRP of ÂŁ19.79.
Once the game is downloaded, it’s yours to keep.
If you don’t play games on PC, then you might be pleased to know that Rustler is also available on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. As for GTA VI, that is currently scheduled to be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
