After starring as Jimbo (the mascot of Balatro) in many of the game’s promotional materials, Ben Starr has reprised the role in a 12-month Balatro calendar featuring many Jokers.
Today, LocalThunk, Playstack, Fangamer and Ben Starr have combined their powers to release one of the most unhinged celebrations of Balatro yet, and it’s not a deck of cards. Reprising his role from the many trailers (including the Friends of Jimbo trailer), Ben Starr is featured in every month of the Joker-laden calendar, portraying a suite of the Jokers featured on cards in the title. LocalThunk and Playstack have confirmed they “don’t have any dirt on him[Ben Starr],” he just genuinely likes being part of the Balatro Universe.Â
As a bonus, all profits from Playstack and LocalThunk will be donated to SpecialEffect and Extra Life. SpecialEffect is known for transforming the lives of people with physical challenges across the world through the innovative use of technology. Their core mission is to optimize inclusion, enjoyment and quality of life by helping people control video games to the best of their abilities, with or without disabilities. Extra Life (est. 2008) fundraises year-round and the community accrues donations that go to local member hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services. Aside from funding these two charities, Fangamer will donate $5 for every copy sold through its store.
The latest collaboration (without a calendar) Balatro has gotten into is a crossover with Vampire Survivors that sees Jimbo enter the roguelike mayhem of Survivors (returning the favour from Friends of Jimbo). The new update is called The Ante Chamber, and it is free for all players on all platforms. The update brings four new characters to the fold, allowing players to play as Jimbo, Canio, Chicot, and Perkeo.
