A controversial PS3, PS4 dark fantasy game is making a surprise return after 11 years with a new entry on PS5 / PSVR2. Vertigo Games-developed Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow looks pretty promising in its brand-new gameplay trailer, leaving fans hopeful that the series will make a full-fledged return to modern platforms.
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow brings dark steampunk fantasy to PS5 as PSVR2 game
Published by Maze Theory, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow will release on December 4 exclusively for VR platforms (PS5 required for PSVR2). But its VR exclusivity hasn’t stopped fans from getting their hopes up for a revival.
Thief is a beloved series that unfortunately fell off the map after its 2014 PS3, PS4 game flopped. Then publisher Square Enix dropped the IP in 2022, and it has since been under the ownership of the Embracer Group. There’s now a glimmer of hope that Legacy of Shadow will put Thief back on the map.
“You are Magpie, a cunning thief orphaned by Northcrest’s brutality and shaped by the streets, who steals as the only means to survive,” reads an official overview. “That is, until you uncover something greater: a legendary artifact holding a legacy from the past. Use immersive virtual reality mechanics to steal, evade, and outsmart the forces controlling The City.”
