In an interview with GQ, Vince Zampella, head of the Battlefield brand, gave his opinion on the creation of the Call of Duty franchise.
It’s worth remembering that Zampella worked on the Medal of Honor series with Electronic Arts before founding Infinity Ward in 2002 and signing a deal with Activision Blizzard for Call of Duty. According to him, this iconic franchise and partnership only came about because EA messed up.
“The only reason that Call of Duty exists is because EA were dicks”, said Zampella during the interview. He has since returned to EA to work on Titanfall, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Apex Legends.
It’s been quite the winning bet, with Battlefield 6 proving extremely popular, attracting 747,440 simultaneous players on Steam alone.
