After having its God Of War live service game cancelled, Bluepoint Games thankfully has something new in the pipeline.
When people criticise the PlayStation 5 for having no games, what theyâre really referring to is the strange dearth of exclusives from Sonyâs own first party studios.
Considering the reports of multiple live service games getting canned, itâs widely believed that those studios were working on games as a service titles before then being taken off them again, when flops like Concord proved they werenât the guaranteed hit Sony initially hoped for.
This has led to some studios going years without releasing anything, such as Demonâs Souls remake developer Bluepoint Games. But if a new job listing is anything to go by, that should hopefully change sooner rather than later.
The Demonâs Souls remake was a PlayStation 5 launch title in 2020, which means Bluepoint hasnât made anything else the whole generation. Game development is time consuming nowadays, but whereas other studios have since released or announced new projects, Bluepoint has been mostly silent.
Bluepoint still hasnât officially said anything but, as so often happens, theyâve revealed details of their next project in a job listing â featuring information theyâve never discussed publicly.
The listing is for a senior combat designer and mentions â[designing] enemy and boss-type characters and [refining] engaging combat systems and mechanics.â

It also sounds like the project is a third person action game, since the ideal applicant would possess a âsolid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for third person melee action experiences.â
Hopefully, this is a traditional single-player experience, but the listing doesnât specify whether thatâs the case or if this is yet another live service game.
Back in 2021, in the wake of Sonyâs acquisition of Bluepoint, the studio did say its next game would be something entirely original, ruling out another remake or remaster, which have been Bluepointâs bread and butter since its inception.
However, thereâs no telling if that project even exists anymore, since Bluepoint has been spending the last several years on a God Of War live service game instead; one Sony cancelled in January.
Itâs possible Bluepoint was juggling both, but itâs equally likely that its original project was cancelled so the studio could focus on the live service game, especially since such projects are (or were) a major priority for Sony.
If not and this job listing is for something brand new, then Bluepointâs next game is even further off and probably wonât launch till after the PlayStation 6 is released in 2027.
Bluepoint isnât the only one to have gone this long without a new game. Bend Studio released Days Gone in 2019 and was meant to be doing its own live service game, only for that to be cancelled alongside Bluepointâs.
According to Bloombergâs Jason Schreier, Bend Studio started working on something new in June, but thereâs nothing to indicate what it is and since roughly 40 people were let go, shrinking the team by 30%, itâs probably not going to arrive anytime soon.
