5 Things We Expect To See in Highguard’s Launch Showcase

The upcoming multiplayer shooter, Highguard, is getting a much-needed launch showcase event today, and we’ll be going through what we can expect to see.

Highguard was the final reveal at The Game Awards in December 2025, and let’s be honest, that probably did the new IP no favours whatsoever, even if it is from some of the developers that brought us Titanfall and Apex Legends.

Typically, the final reveal at The Game Awards is saved for something big. Whether it’s a new IP from a major studio or a highly anticipated sequel. For example, in 2024, it was Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and in 2022, it was the release date for Final Fantasy XVI. But today is finally the day! Highguard launches today, 26 January 2026, at 1pm EST, 6pm GMT. Accompanying the launch is a Highguard Launch Showcase, confirmed to have an in-depth look at Highguard direct from the studio, featuring a full gameplay deep dive, year one plans, and much more. Here’s what we’re expecting to see!

Character Class Introduction

Rather than being a hero shooter, similar to the likes of Overwatch and Marvel Rivals, Highguard is a PvPvE raid shooter. Players will need to work as a team if they are to not only survive the human and NPC onslaught, but also defeat big raid bosses and come out with plenty of loot.

Players will have a variety of playable characters to choose from, so we can probably expect to see a deepdive to learn more about characters’ personalities, backstory and what skills they bring to the battlefield.

Horseback Traversal

One gameplay aspect that Highguard might have over its competition is that players can traverse the maps and engage in combat on horseback. Think Braveheart charging into a fantasy battle with might and magic, and that’s what Highguard gives me vibes of.

Following the Highguard reveal at The Game Awards, it took a lot of criticism from the video game community for looking like a generic hero shooter. That very well may be the case, but if there’s one element that can help win over some doubters, it’s how fun it might be charging on horseback. That needs to be a focus during the launch showcase.

Season Pass Progression and Rewards

Being a free-to-play game, Highguard will rely heavily on its in-game rewards. There will no doubt be a paid season pass with more exclusive cosmetic unlocks, but there will be a large portion of gamers who won’t spend a penny on the game. So the developers will have to convince those gamers why Highguard is worth their time by offering enticing rewards that won’t feel too grindy. Then hopefully, the developers might be thrown a quid or two.

Will There Be a Titanfall and Apex Legends Crossover?

Now, this one is moreso wishful thinking. Despite Highguard having some devs on the team that worked on Titanfall and Apex Legends, it has nothing to do with publisher Electronic Arts or developer Respawn Entertainment.

That being said, if Wildlight Entertainment can’t work out a deal to bring some crossover content to Highguard, it could perhaps have content inspired by Titanfall and Apex Legends. If this was revealed at the launch showcase, the heavy dose of nostalgia could do the game the world of good. As unlikely as that crossover would be, it’d be no less awesome.

What time is the Highguard launch showcase and Where to Watch?

The Highguard launch showcase takes place later today at 6pm UK time/10am PT/1pm EST, and it will be streamed on YouTube.

Highguard will be released today on PC via Steam at the above times. The dates for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are vague, but it will be today as well. All platforms will feature crossplay and cross-progression.
