Baldur’s Gate 3 is a marvel in the gaming industry, offering gamers a robust and immersive experience unlike any other. However, even though Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game for the ages, that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved with mods. On its own, BG3 doesn’t need a single mod installed, as you can play through the 100+ hour epic just as the developers intended and have an unforgettable time. Of course, if you’ve already played through one of the best RPGs ever made once–or you’re simply looking to enhance the experience on your first playthrough– some of the best Baldur’s Gate 3 mods can make a world of difference.
Fortunately, developer Larian is making it easier than ever to mod the hit RPG. Not only have the developers opened up full mod support since launch, but BG3 also has its own mod manager you can use to organize all the mods you download. The mod manager works on PC as well as consoles, but the console selections of mods are far more limited than PC. Speaking of consoles and PC, the recent Patch 8 update allows every BG3 to engage in cross-play, giving you the chance to play with friends on other platforms. Patch 8 also adds new subclasses, a photo mode, and various other fixes. This is the last major update for BG3, so now’s the time to hop back in with some shiny new mods.
While the modding scene in BG3 isn’t as expansive as the Fallout mods or Elder Scrolls mods communities, there are plenty of mods to improve the RPG in a number of ways. From quality-of-life fixes and lifted restrictions to full-on gameplay changes, mods have the ability to completely transform the way you play BG3. 5e Spells

If you’re a true fan of Dungeons & Dragons, you likely realized early on that BG3 is missing quite a few spells from the tabletop game. While BG3 does have a solid list of spells for your character to learn, more must be better, right? The 5e Spells mod adds in various spells from levels 1-9 that didn’t make it into the final cut of BG3. This includes Cantrips and there are new spells for all classes to learn. The mod also allows you to pick and choose what mods you can learn, allowing you to tailor your experience to your liking. As a note, this mod requires Norbyte’s Script Extender for some of the mods to be implemented properly.
WASD Character Movement

While the traditional movement method for an ARPG on keyboard and mouse relies on mouse clicks, that’s not how many gamers prefer to move. If you’re a fan of using the WASD keys to move up, down, and side-to-side, then the WASD Character Movement mod is just what the doctor ordered. This mod does exactly what it says, allowing you to press WASD for full movement capabilities. This frees up your mouse to interact with objects, inventories, or other characters. The mod also features a different third-person camera that you can toggle to, making BG3 feel more like a traditional RPG.
Carry Weight Increased

Managing an inventory in BG3 is all a part of the RPG experience, as you’re faced with the constant battle of what to keep and what to destroy or sell. While having extra party members to dump loot onto is a nice creature comfort in Faerun, it doesn’t always solve your problems. Highlight Everything

Party Limit Begone

One of the cornerstones of BG3 is the party system, which allows you to take control over three additional characters that aren’t yourself. The default total number of characters you can have is four, which is certainly enough to get through any combat or dialogue situation. However, if you don’t want to make compromises with the composition of your party, then download the Party Limit Begone mod. This allows you to take 16 party members at a given time (eight members for a multiplayer playthrough). However, this mod only works with new saves, so you won’t be able to use an existing save. There are also bound to be bugs with such a high party limit, so be warned.
Smart Autosaving

Whether you want to save at a crucial dice roll to ensure you eventually get the outcome you want or to see different dialogue options, saving at certain intervals is an essential part of the game. However, it’s difficult to always remember to save, especially when you’re fully immersed in BG3. Fortunately, the Smart Autosaving mod takes some of the hassle out of your hands. The mod automatically saves at crucial parts of the game and at specific time intervals (10 minutes by default). You can configure how often and when the mod saves the game through the mod manager, but regardless, it can be a true fail-safe in BG3.
Camp Event Notifications

Your party’s campsite is one of the most important locations at any point in BG3. It’s where you interact with party members, progress quests, and advance romance options if applicable. However, BG3 doesn’t do a terrific job of alerting you when there’s a party member who wishes to speak to you. The Camp Event Notifications mod takes care of all those concerns. Not only does it put an icon over a character’s head that tells you they have business with you, but it also tells you when you should take a long rest due to a night event that’s set to occur. Withers’ inventory resets after a long rest as well, so you essentially can continually buy and sell new items with them whenever you want. While Baldur’s Gate 3 certainly features an authentic D&D experience, there is some higher-level content missing by design. Most notably, there are just under 10 levels that can’t be reached during a single playthrough. Those levels unlock new spells, class features, and more content. Well, to hit those levels and use that content, you can download the Unlock Level Curve mod. This adds levels 13-20 for all classes and gives you additional resources, spell slots, and other features. The mod gives every character in your party access to all available potions across the entire party. This means that if Shadowheart has two healing potions and Astarion has three healing potions, your whole party has immediate access to the five healing potions in total. The way the mod does this is gives your party four unique potions, and those represent the four types of healing potions in BG3 (basic, superior, greater, supreme). Just use the potion you want, and it’s taken from your entire party’s inventory. This saves you time going through each character’s inventory to find the potion you want to use.

Generally, Waypoints in Baldur’s Gate 3 make sense. The Waypoints are at central locations throughout the various maps and leave enough room in between each one so that you’re not fast traveling too often. However, there are some locations in the game that deserve additional Waypoints, and that’s where the Waypoints Expanded mod comes in. The mod adds five new Waypoints to the game; two in Act 1, one in Act 2, and two in Act 3. The Waypoints are strategically placed so that you and your party can fast travel more efficiently if you choose to do so. The new points also look different from the vanilla ones so you know exactly what’s been changed.

This opens up a number of possibilities, including broader romance options, and the ability to combine multiple playstyles and experience opposite sides of the narrative. Early Access Nautiloid

This mod makes everything revolve around you–scaling alongside you to keep the challenge feeling fresh and preventing you from outleveling your enemies. Standard foes automatically match the highest level character in your party, while bosses take things a little higher. You’ll get a shot at being truly tactical, rather than spamming for a win. It also means that loot comes scaled up and ready to serve as a well-deserved reward.
