2K Games is laying off staff at 31st Union (Project Ethos)

In October 2024, the studio 31st Union, in partnership with 2K Games, unveiled a third-person shooter titled Project Ethos. Since then, we have seen very little about the game.

This week, an unknown number of employees were laid off from the studio. In an internal memo, director Ben Brinkmana referenced the project’s Β« new direction and vision Β», adding that Β« our success depends on our ability to work faster and with greater agility. Β»

Development of Project Ethos continues, but with a smaller team.

It’s always tough to hear about layoffs in the gaming industry, especially for a studio working on exciting projects like Project Ethos. Wishing the best for everyone affected during this challenging time.

Absolutely, layoffs can be devastating for the team and the projects they are passionate about. It’s interesting to consider how this might impact the development timeline for Project Ethos, as a change in staffing can alter the creative direction and momentum of a game. Hopefully, the remaining team can rally and continue to push the project forward.
