2026’s Best PS5 Console Exclusive RPG Getting a Free Update

One of PS5‘s biggest console exclusives is getting a free update that will add new challenges, items, and more.

What game is getting a free update?

Team Ninja’s recently released Nioh 3, which came out in February, is already getting a big update, and all for free. On Team Ninja’s blog, the company thanked fans for their support and announced that a new update would release on April 27, 2026.

“We would first like to express our gratitude to the many players around the world who have taken the time to play Nioh 3 since its release. We are currently hard at work developing future updates and DLC for the game,” reads the post on Team Ninja’s blog announcing the update.

The new update for Nioh 3 will include “multiple high-difficulty Battle Scrolls,” which serve as side missions in the game. Alongside that, the update will also include:

• Addition of the Stone of Penance, which increases accessory +Values and rarities in exchange for higher difficulties
• Addition of new skills as rewards for completing selected high-difficulty Battle Scroll missions
• Balance adjustments to enhance certain Graces

Nioh 3 is also set to receive paid DLC in the coming months, with the first DLC set to drop in September 2026, and then another DLC planned for February 2027.

Nioh 3 is an action role-playing game that serves as the third installment in Team Ninja’s Nioh series. The game takes place following the events of the previous two and sees players control Tokugawa Takechiyo, the grandchild of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Much like the previous two games, Nioh 3 will see players battling against yokai and other supernatural beings.

The first two Nioh games were big hits for Team Ninja. Nioh 2, released in 2020 and serves as a prequel to the original game. As of last year, the Nioh series as a whole has sold over 8 million units worldwide.
