Xbox Freebie Is A Banger Game You Shouldn’t Miss

Gamers are urged not to miss this Xbox banger that you can play right now at no extra cost.

Despite the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier recently receiving a massive price hike, there is still plenty of value to be had. Especially with its lesser-priced tiers.

For a still reasonable fee (in respect of having hundreds of games to play), Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has tons of titles to choose from, such as first-party delights, third-party big hitters or a plethora of indie darlings. You should not be short of anything to play, whether it’s a modern game or a retro classic.

One game that comes recommended by the Xbox Game Pass community is South of Midnight, developed by Compulsion Games.

In our review, GAMINGbible’s Kate said: “South of Midnight offers such a remarkable story and what could be the year’s best soundtrack. Just like Hazel, South of Midnight occasionally stumbles, but it’s most definitely still a journey worth venturing on.”

A gamer on Reddit is also impressed with the first-party action-adventure on Xbox Game Pass.

“I completed this game today and was pleasantly surprised. It kept me gripped. I’m not saying the storyline is hardcore or anything, but it was enough to keep me entertained,” wrote Redditor Electronic-Industry4.

“The game itself is a nice little platformer with a few skills to add and a bit of variation as you go through each level. The combat could have been a little better, but once you get it flowing, like Hogwarts Legacy, you can get a good flow of dodge and attack.”

“Totally agree, has a sort of old-school feel to it, like an Xbox 360 game. Nothing complicated,” explained M4TTB09, in response. “Gameplay-wise, I just really had fun, and it’s a feel-good game.”

“It’s a good game. A bit repetitive on the combat side, a lot of repeated enemies and only one weapon, but the story, the vibe and the music are very good, definitely worth playing,” replied Idkwnisu.

“Amazing game if you want fantastic art direction and folklore. A bit repetitive, but it’s more of a narrative game than a proper hack and slash,” said Administrative_Suit7.

“Agreed! Beat it in one sitting on a Saturday. Combat got very stale at the end, though, especially the final boss,” exclaimed jtrainacomin. “But other than that, it’s fantastic.”

“I thought the level and character design were top-notch,” said Maddug76. “Beautiful artwork with an amazing soundtrack. Combat was a little meh, but easily overlooked based on how good the rest of the game was.”

South of Midnight is out now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
