While awaiting the early access release of **BLACKFROST: The Long Dark 2** in 2027, Hinterland Studio has decided to part ways w

The Canadian studio has chosen to lay off ten full-time employees. CEO Raphael van Lierop shared the news on his LinkedIn profile.

“Like most self-publising developers, Hinterland is not insulated from the tumultuous state of the video game industry at this time. But this decision is primarily motivated by progress around our projects. Blackfrost , our sequel to The Long Dark , still needs more time in development before we will be able to launch it in early access.

Pushing the game out beyond the end of 2026 means pushing significant expected revenue out as well, and these layoffs will help us preserve the financial resources required to get the game to launch, as well as to continue supporting our other games.”

If all had went according the plan, BLACKFROST: The Long Dark 2 should have been released at the end of the year on PC. However, the delay has logically had serious consequences for the company, which employs around 100 people.
