Developer Everstone Studio and publisher NetEase Games have released a new trailer for upcoming Wuxia-inspired open-world RPG Where Winds Meet. The trailer focuses on the wonders of the upcoming title’s open world, focusing on side activities, various game systems, the flora and fauna, and the fights. Check it out below.
Since the trailer heavily focuses on showcasing the open world that players will get to explore throughout their time with Where Winds Meet, we also get to see some of the towns that we can visit, and quite a few of the side-activities, like street fights, live performances, and street-side card games. The title will seemingly feature quite a few side quests that can also have players pick the pockets of their targets, and take on impressive foes like giant bears.
While this trailer focuses on the world itself, Where Winds Meet got a trailer back in September that instead focused on its Wuxia-based combat as well as scenes from the story. The combat showcased in the trailer was fast-paced, with quite a bit of emphasis placed on how players will have plenty of freedom when it comes to their weapons of choice and even their different combos.
In July, lead designer of Where Winds Meet, Chris Lyu, had spoken about the studio’s ambitions for the game, and how they wanted to make the kind of game that hadn’t really been seen before. He also spoke about development challenges, and how response has been from players part of its playtests.
“What we hope to create is a really immersive world experience, that was our core goal when we created this project,” said Lyu. “Of course, we ran into a lot of difficulties. Since no other studio has made this kind of game before, we didn’t have a lot of references.” He went on to discuss the overall positive reception that the title has been seeing, especially in China.”
“The overall response has been pretty great and we’ve got a lot of positive reviews,” Lyu continued. “On Douyin [Chinese equivalent to TikTok] and Xiaohongshu [RedNote] we had a lot of spontaneous discussions among the players. Some of them would post videos of them playing and those videos would generate a lot of comments from others. Also, the response to the storyline has been great. A lot of players would burst into tears at the most moving parts and I think that created a lot of talk about the game.”
Where Winds Meet is coming to PC and PS5 on November 14, and will be a free-to-play title. For more information on what kind of gameplay you can expect from the RPG, check out the 10-minute showcase from back in July, which showed off quite a bit of content. Things like high-speed traversal, side-activities, and plenty of fast-paced combat, both against groups of enemies, as well as against a single, strong one. Also check out our thoughts on its closed beta.
As for the story side of things, a trailer from earlier in July focused on one of the core characters of Where Winds Meet – General Wang Qing – and how this character’s actions influenced the course of history.
