Warning: you only have hours left to buy Nintendo Switch game vouchers

Switch Game Vouchers will soon be a relic of the past, but you will have some time to redeem any you purchase today.

Considering first party Nintendo games rarely drop in price, Switch Game Vouchers were a good way to save a few pounds on Nintendo Switch titles.

The scheme let you buy two vouchers for £84, which can be redeemed against certain games from a curated list. For example, if you’re looking to buy Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition (£49.99) and The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (£59.99) digitally, you can save a decent £25.98 by picking up some vouchers instead.

However, Nintendo announced it was abandoning the scheme last year, and we’re fast approaching the deadline for when Switch Game Vouchers will be withdrawn from sale.

When are Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers ending?

You have until 11.59pm on Friday, January 30 to buy any final Switch Game Vouchers. To be clear, this is the deadline to buy the vouchers themselves – not to redeem any vouchers you already have.

Switch Game Vouchers can only be purchased if you have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Any vouchers you have already bought are valid for one year from the date of purchase, so if you buy some today, they won’t expire until January 30, 2027.

Bear in mind you can only have eight active Switch Game Vouchers in your account at once, so you can’t stock up in bulk. Also, you can’t redeem vouchers against Nintendo Switch 2 games.

However, you can pick up the original Switch versions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and upgrade to the Switch 2 versions later for a small fee.

The scheme’s axing is another sign of Nintendo’s growing stinginess of late, after it binned the legitimately great Gold Points reward scheme last year. There’s been no replacement scheme on the Switch 2 and it’s unclear if they have plans for anything similar in the future.

As for what games you can pick up with Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, you can find the full list here, which includes Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
