Microsoft has announced a permanent price drop for its Obsidian Entertainment action RPG ahead of its PS5 launch. Former Xbox exclusive Avowed will launch on Sony’s platform for $49.99, and it’ll come with PS5 Pro enhancements.
Obsidian RPG Avowed will launch for $20 less than it did on Xbox
Avowed launched on Xbox and PC for $69.99. This is before Microsoft attracted sharp criticism for announcing an $80 launch price tag for its AAA games, only to end up reversing course.
Avowed is now up for preorder on the PS Store. The game will launch on February 17, along with a $59.99 Premium Edition that includes:
- Base Game
- Digital Artbook & Soundtrack
- Two Player Armors
- Eight Companion Skins
Those who preorder any edition of Avowed can claim the “Emperor’s Feast,” which boosts your character’s attributes for an early edge. The pack contains:
- 1 Candied Nuts
- 1 Wild Mushroom Stew
- 1 Roasted Chicken
- 1 Paradisan Trout Pie
- 1 Darkest Rauataian Chocolate Cookie
Avowed released to overall positive reviews on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with its Metacritic average ranging from 77 to 80 between both versions.
It remains to be seen how well Avowed does on PS5. The $49.99 price tag should help reach more players.

It’s interesting to see Microsoft making strategic moves with pricing ahead of the launch. This could definitely attract more players to the game. Looking forward to seeing how it performs!
Absolutely, it’s a smart move to create buzz and attract potential buyers before the release. Pricing strategies can significantly influence initial sales, especially in such a competitive market. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects the overall reception of the game once it launches!
