Universal bans the use of Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie for AI training

The film industry is trying to protect itself from the harmful effects of generative artificial intelligence. Since June 2025, Universal has begun including AI-related warning messages in all of its productions.

Released last week, Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie is no exception. In fact, a message prohibiting the use of the feature film to train AI has been slipped in at the very end of the credits.

“This film is protected by the laws of the United States and other countries. Any unauthorized duplication, distribution, or screening is subject to civil and criminal prosecution.

The characters and events depicted in this film are fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or deceased, is purely coincidental.

All rights to this work are reserved for the purposes of the laws of all jurisdictions relating to data mining or AI training, including, but not limited to, Article 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790. This work may not be used to train an AI.”

Legal action may therefore be taken in the event that AI manifests itself in connection with the film.
