Uncharted Meets John Wick in Incredible-Looking New Game

The John Wick franchise has inspired a lot of media over the years, with its revolutionary action scenes balanced out with genuinely emotional storytelling.

Films, TV series and games have taken notes from the Keanu Reeves action series but rather than list them all let’s talk about Blackwood, a Steam game that looks like the closest thing to a John Wick game we’ve seen so far.

Developed by AttritoM7 Productions, Blackwood is coming to PCs sometime next year, combining hand-to-hand combat with gun-fu.

The official description reads: “By day, you run a DVD store in 2012 New York. By night, you’re a ruthless assassin. BLACKWOOD is a cinematic third-person shooter with grounded melee combat, brutal takedowns, responsive gunplay, and a double life to manage.”

It looks pretty good but of course we’ll reserve judgement until we’ve actually tried the game for ourselves.

Any game that successfully mimics the combat seen in the John Wick films is definitely worth keeping an eye on though.

Aside from that the game being set in New York is cool, as the concrete jungle tends to make for an excellent playground when it comes to shooting and espionage games like this. The story also sounds promising, especially the “double life to manage” bit as it almost implies we’ll have to do some activities to keep our cover intact.

Very few games have replicated the rhythm and feeling of John Wick’s famous gun-fu takedowns, though Blackwood certainly seems like it’s going to change that at first glance.

As for the John Wick franchise, more spin-offs are reportedly in the works following The Ballerina and a potential fifth film is also being considered. John Wick: Chapter 4 had a pretty concrete conclusion but it did leave the door slightly ajar for a return. Personally I’d rather they keep the ending they currently have but I’m not going to turn down more of those action scenes, and it’s always bothered me that he never got back his car that he sent for repair in John Wick: Chapter 2.

Blackwood doesn’t currently have a release date but the game’s Steam page says it’s planned for Q2 2026. As long as there are no delays this would place the game’s release not far off GTA VI, and we can’t wait to give it a go.
