Ubisoft’s union representatives call for Yves Guillemot departure

The situation at Ubisoft is still not improving! The company’s restructuring plan seems to have caused the French publisher’s teams to lose confidence, and they are now expressing their frustration in no uncertain terms.

This week, the Game Developer website spoke with Marc RutschlĂ© and Chakib Mataoui, two union representatives for Solidaires Informatique who work at Ubisoft Paris. It should be noted that the company’s Paris offices are planning to cut around 200 jobs in the coming weeks.

RutschlĂ© and Mataoui said that staff felt these announcements were a “betrayal” and that anger is mounting. Messages from Ubisoft’s internal messaging system reflect a certain disbelief and highlight widespread condemnation from employees. Today, the two union representatives are calling for the departure of CEO Yves Guillemot. Guillemot is accused of having overseen almost nothing but downsizing plans over the past five years.

To regain the trust of the teams, Marc RutschlĂ© and Chakib Mataoui believe that Ubisoft must remove its president. However, the main parties involved admit that Guillemot is not solely responsible for this situation, accusing “those around him” of saying “yes” to all his requests. The representatives also criticize the arrival of Charlie Guillemot, the CEO’s son, at the head of the Vantage Studios subsidiary.

“If you just put your white male friends in [those jobs], then you don’t promote any diversity or get any new opinions or ideas. We are in a creative job. We need new ideas to come in to [help us] make great new games. But we don’t have that. We don’t have this mindset for creativity.”

Ubisoft unions are now calling for an international strike from February 10 to 12, 2026.
