Without going over the whole story again, it should be noted that Assassin’s Creed Shadows was the subject of much controversy prior to its launch. This was mainly related to the character of Yasuke and historical inaccuracies.
At Paris Games Week 2025 last week, Ubisoft revisited this turbulent development. Yves Guillemot, CEO of the French publisher, showed a carefully scripted video of the events leading up to the release of Shadows.
Guillemot said he was “surprised by the scale of the attacks” before adding that it was a “battle with our fans to show that we were actually making a video game rather than sending a message”. The video in question lasted three minutes and its content was reported to Game File.
