This is yet another blow to the video game industry, and once again, Ubisoft is behind this latest round of layoffs. The French publisher has decided to shut down Red Storm Entertainment’s development operations.
As a result, the North Carolina-based studio will now only provide support for the Snowdrop engine and maintain Ubisoft’s global IT services. A total of 105 employees will be laid off as a result of this restructuring.
Founded in 1996 and acquired by Ubisoft in 2000, Red Storm Entertainment developed several titles for the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six franchises. Recently, the company had been focusing primarily on VR games such as Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR and Star Trek: Bridge Crew.
