Ubisoft could cut up to 60 jobs at the Trials IP studio

Ubisoft RedLynx got some very bad news this week. The studio behind the Trials franchise is set to undergo restructuring as part of a strategic reorientation.

A statement published on the company’s website indicates that the plan is to “simplify, reduce costs, and strengthen the prioritization and efficiency of the publisher’s global network of studios”. As a result, up to 60 people could be laid off in the coming days. Collective bargaining negotiations will begin on October 30.

Once this reorganization is complete, Ubisoft RedLynx will abandon its multi-platform approach to become a studio specializing in “small screens”, so it seems the Trials license is expected to continue solely on mobile devices.

Céline Pasula, the director of RedLynx, is optimistic about the future of the firm.

“We are confident that with the proposed changes, RedLynx will continue to play a significant role in Ubisoft’s future, promoting technical excellence on mobile devices and strengthening Ubisoft’s multiplatform capabilities on small screens to expand our audience.”

It’s definitely disheartening to see job cuts, especially at a studio with such a strong legacy in the Trials franchise. Hopefully, the team can find new opportunities or pivot creatively during this challenging time. It’s a reminder of how volatile the industry can be, even for established names.

I completely agree; it’s tough to see a studio with such a rich history facing these challenges. The Trials franchise has brought so much joy to gamers over the years, and it’s a reminder of how fragile the industry can be. Hopefully, the team can find a way to bounce back and continue creating innovative experiences.
