Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Free Download Released, New Remasters Teased

Tomb Raider’s 30th anniversary has been celebrated with a new free download, and in it has a brand new tease for 30th anniversary Tomb Raider remasters. We couldn’t be more excited!

2026 marks 30 years since Lara Croft first entered our lives, and with last month’s announcement of two new games in the works, it feels like an excellent time to be a Tomb Raider fan.

While we wait for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to come out later this year though, Crystal Dynamics has marked the occasion with a new celebratory free download, as well as hints at new remasters in development.

In a new blog post on the Tomb Raider website, Crystal Dynamics wrote “It’s been 30 years since Lara Croft climbed, jumped, and swan-dived onto the scene, and every moment since has been an adventure.

“From her sharply-polygonal origins in 1996, to the recently announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, our favorite British archaeologist and adventurer has established herself as gaming’s most iconic heroine, and we plan to celebrate that legacy all year long!”

The blog post is accompanied by a free 30th anniversary wallpaper, featuring various iterations of Lara that have existed over the past three decades. It’s available for PC desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. I’ve already made it my PC background.

I’ve embedded one of the wallpapers below so you can see what it looks like. If you’re interested, you can download the wallpapers from the official 30th anniversary blog post on the Tomb Raider website.

Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics has also teased new projects and collaborations with various partners, who will each release special 30th anniversary Tomb Raider-themed products this year.

Could Aspyr Be Remastering More Tomb Raider Games?

One of these partners is Aspyr, the developer behind the remastered collections of the first six Tomb Raider games, as well as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition’s Switch release.

This tease seemingly hints at a new remaster project in the works, potentially either being a Rise of the Tomb Raider Switch port, or re-releases of the Legend trilogy on modern consoles to fit alongside Aspyr’s other recent remasters.

Either one would be fine with me, but the Legend trilogy is pretty difficult to play on modern systems these days so it feels like these are next.

On PS5, you’re basically stuck with the PS2 versions of Legend and Anniversary (Underworld isn’t even on there), while the PC version lacks Underworld’s Xbox-exclusive DLC.

Other companies that Crystal Dynamics is working with include comics publisher Dark Horse, hardware company 8BitDo, and Pop! figure company Funko.
