You can download and play this PC game via Steam right now for free, and it’s yours to keep forever.
In this day and age, it’s becoming increasingly more important to save money where we can, especially when it comes to our beloved hobby of playing video games.
Even more so in 2025, everything became more expensive. It’s not just me right? Household bills, food shopping and everything else in between. Inconveniently, the video game industry was no exception, with price hikes on consoles as well as subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. Oof.
That’s why I don’t mind the idea of subscription services, though of course they have their issues. Despite the price hikes, which included Xbox Game Pass rising to 50% in some regions, they still offer value for money and are certainly cheaper than buying AAA video games every month.
How To Claim Our Free Game Recommendation
That being said, as much value as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass have, it’s always nice to claim a game for free with no questions asked. Such as the Steam game that is the main topic of this article!
The free Steam game in question is the online multiplayer, Initial Drift Online, developed and published by the indie studio, RewindApp.
“Drift over some of Japan’s most legendary mountain passes, compete against your friends or players from around the world in epic battles, make deliveries, buy new cars and set records in the world rankings!” reads the synopsis of the game.
After watching one of its gameplay videos, the visuals look okay, though it lacks some environmental details in some parts. But i’m not complaining for free! The gameplay looks like it might be fun, and kind of reminds me of Colin McRae/DiRT meets Need for Speed. Plus, I actually love Initial D. Here you go!
Initial Drift Online currently has an overall Steam user review rating of “Very Positive, but its more recent reviews are “Mixed”. Some Steam users have praised the car handling and drifting mechanics, while others have criticised it for having bugs and server issues.
Initial Drift Online launched on 30 March 2023 with a price of £4.99, but at the time of writing, you can download and keep it for free. So, the only thing you might waste is time and temporary storage space. But if you enjoy the game, that’s a nice bonus.
However, on 18 January 2026, Initial Drift Online will return to its standard but modest RRP. Act fast!
