A surplus of Sims rumours have only made the seriesā future murkier, claiming support for The Sims 4 will end in favour of a whole new game.
After a few years of confusion, EA eventually clarified that it would not be making The Sims 5, choosing to focus on a multiplayer project dubbed Project Rene and further support the still popular The Sims 4.
However, there remains very little official info about Project Rene and fan reception to private playtests hasnāt been particularly positive. And just a couple of months ago, rumours spread of EA planning to replace The Sims 4 with an upgraded remaster.
More recently, another batch of rumours have swept through the Sims community, alleging that not only will the next Sims 4 expansion be its last, but that EA is working on a new single-player Sims game after all.
These rumours initially spread right before the end of 2025, with Sims insider phi_oda on X claiming that a royalty themed DLC expansion is on its way, but that The Sims 4ās āmajor content is done.ā
At the very least, the DLC itself appears to be legit as something called The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy has been rated in South Korea. EA itself hasnāt officially announced anything though an EA community manager did issue a comment about the claims of this expansion being The Sims 4ās last.
In a Reddit thread about the rumours, all theyāve said is, āWe know thereās a lot of misinformation going around. Weāll be back in early January with what to know via our official Sims channels.ā
Around the same time as this, a job listing for an AI engineer intern was spotted on EAās website. Sims fan-site Sims Community claims the listing initially mentioned the role being for a Project X, but these references have since been redacted.
However, the webpageās URL still contains the Project X name and also mentions Sims series developer Maxis, so this job listing is definitely for something Sims related.
It could be assumed that this is the aforementioned Sims 4 remaster, but someone who claims to have internal knowledge of EA and Maxisā plans has said that while Project X will retain some aspects of The Sims 4, itāll be its own game.
This comes from a gloamingthepain on the ATRL forums, who describes Project X as the single-player portion of Project Rene, which EA has decided to split into its own game.
Now, a first look at Project Xās character designs has allegedly leaked via a screenshot anonymously sent to Sims Community. The screenshot features close-ups of four characters and they certainly look like they could come from a new Sims game.
There is a chance that the image is AI generated, but that doesnāt mean itās fake. The aforementioned job listing shows EA is interested in working with generative AI for its games and with the company saddled with a lot of debt from its recent acquisition deal, itās suggested EA is going all-in on AI to help offset costs.
