The ROG Xbox Ally X performs very similarly to the Switch 2

Although vastly superior on paper, the ROG Xbox Ally X ultimately struggles to compete with the Switch 2. Nintendo’s console holds its own against the Asus machine and even manages to outperform it in certain specific cases.

A video posted on YouTube by ElAnalistaDeBits shows all this. The Switch 2 starts up in approximately 13 seconds, while the ROG Xbox Ally X takes 19 seconds. The latter has a battery life of 3 hours and 3 minutes on Cyberpunk 2077 in Performance mode (17W) and approximately 2 hours in Turbo mode (25W). On the CD Projekt RED title, the Switch 2’s battery lasts 2 hours and 7 minutes.

On a less resource-intensive game like Hollow Knight: Silksong, we get 3 hours and 30 minutes on the Switch 2 and 4 hours and 39 minutes on the ROG Xbox Ally X in Turbo mode, or 5 hours in Performance mode. The Asus machine has the advantage in this area.

But it’s in terms of definition that the ROG Xbox Ally X falls short. NVIDIA’s DLSS works wonders on the Switch 2, offering sharper image quality. Star Wars Outlaws achieves a dynamic definition of 635p compared to a static definition of 635p on its competitor. The rendering is also slightly better on Cyberpunk 2077.

Finally, the latter has only a slight performance advantage over Hogwarts Legacy. It runs at just over 30 FPS in Turbo mode and barely above 40 FPS in Performance mode. The Switch 2 is locked at 30 FPS.

Simply put, the DLSS built into Nintendo’s console clearly makes the difference.
