According to [Insider ]Gaming (https://insider-gaming.com/ram-prices-next-gen/), the drastic increase in RAM prices, largely due to high demand from industries related to artificial intelligence, is posing a real problem for the video game industry.
RAM modules have seen their prices skyrocket in recent months, making them uncertain and costly for manufacturers to source. This situation is creating a shortage that could continue as long as demand for AI remains high, and prices could climb even further.
For console manufacturers such as Sony and Microsoft, this presents a dilemma: continue to produce their devices at a competitive price or delay the release of the next generation. Internal discussions have already begun at some manufacturers about possible launch delays for consoles planned for 2027–2028.
This is because consoles require large amounts of RAM at a cost that cannot always be passed on to consumers. Even the current generation of consoles could see their prices rise in 2026 due to this lack of accessible memory.
