With the PS5’s recent sharp price hike, some observers expect Sony’s next console to reach the symbolic $1,000 mark at launch. It’s a plausible theory, but one that the Japanese manufacturer may not go along with.
According to insider KeplerL2, the PS6βs bill of materials (the total cost of components and raw materials required for manufacturing) is approximately $760. He therefore estimates that the Japanese company could sell the console for around $699. He considers this price “plausible”, but notes that it will depend on Sonyβs strategy, as the company may no longer view Microsoft as a competitor.
So, if PlayStation finds itself in a monopoly position and decides to ignore the competition, the price of the PS6 could be much higher.
