2026 begins with very bad news for Sony. The PS5’s ROM keys appear to have been leaked. They were reportedly obtained via the limited edition disc of the game Star Wars Racer Revenge.
This major security issue was explained by The Cybersec Guru. The Japanese manufacturer will not be able to fix this issue, which opens the door to a possible jailbreak of the machine.
“In the final hours of 2025, rumors began circulating on the internet that the PlayStation 5’s ROM keys—the deepest and most protected layer of the console’s security architecture—had been leaked.
This is not a kernel flaw that can be fixed with a firmware update. It is the root of hardware trust. And it is already being exploited.”
Thus, the BootROM code, which allows “control of the console”, is currently out in the wild. Several internet users specializing in modding and jailbreaking have confirmed this information. Of course, the PS5 jailbreak is not yet guaranteed. To reach this stage, other security thresholds will need to be crossed.
