Dungeons & Dragons is going to become a part of Fortnite but there’s another far more unlikely addition rumoured, in the shape of the US version of The Office.

Considering it’s a third person shooter, where you’re encouraged to shoot your opponents in order to be the last man standing, Fortnite has some very peculiar celebrity cameos.

Sabrina Carpenter and Kim Kardashian don’t seem like the sort of people that would normally be running around with an assault rifle but there have been other, equally unlikely, franchise crossover recently, from Power Rangers to South Park. But that’s nothing compared to the latest additions.

Fortnite rumours are almost always true, because the information is datamined from within the game itself, so the news that the US version of The Office is going to be featured in the game is almost certainly accurate.

There’s no information on which characters will be featured but the mention of beets seems to imply Dwight Schrute, with the initial tweet from leaker Shiina also picturing Michael Scott, Jim Halpert, and Pam Beesly.

Sadly, there’s no indication that the original UK version of The Office will be involved, but then we’re not sure most Americans even realise that exists.

Compared to The Office, Dungeons & Dragons is a slightly less weird choice for a crossover, although not really considering wizards and elves are not usually depicted firing automatic weapons or flying hang-gliders.

The Dungeons & Dragons team-up is officially confirmed though, as a part of a collaboration with community figures Chartis and Teravision Games for a series of five themed islands.

These islands are not part of the main battle royale mode and will instead allow you to take part in actual role-playing stories and gameplay.

As such, it’s not clear if Dungeons & Dragons skins will be available in battle royale mode, although at least a couple probably will be.

The islands are available now and include a PvP battle arena, a co-op boss fight, platforming sections, and a social hub. There’s also a roguelike mode that is apparently the biggest co-op mode ever for Fortnite.

In terms of setting, the islands are based on the Forgotten Realms and include locations such as the Yawning Portal tavern and Spine of the World mountains. Famous enemies featured include the red dragon Klauth and the necromancer Valindra Shadowmantle.

Forgotten Realms has increasingly become the most popular setting for Dungeons & Dragons, especially after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.

It’s still unclear what the future of that series might be though, as not only has developer Larian Studios sworn not to make any more licensed games but they’ve admitted to a falling out with the Hasbro-owned Wizards of the Coast.

Supposedly, that’s why there isn’t a Switch 2 version of Baldur’s Gate 3, and why it will likely be a long time before there’s ever a Baldur’s Gate 4.

Speaking of Hasbro, former Nintendo of America boss Doug Bowser has just joined the company and his experience with video games may well lead to even more games and crossovers such as this.
