Ubisoft recently carried out a massive round of layoffs at Red Storm Entertainment. The support studio has ceased its development activities and laid off 105 employees. Such decision could have repercussions for some of Ubisoft’s projects.
Insider Gaming reports that OVR, the codename for the next Ghost Recon, is currently considered a “crucial game” by the French publisher. However, we’ve learned that the project has already been significantly scaled back from its initial plans. Now, since several dozen people from Red Storm were working on the title, developers are expecting further budget cuts and delays.
Protected by the WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act), the laid-off employees will leave the company on May 18, 2026. Sources indicate that the laid-off employees were immediately furloughed following the announcement of their departure, and that some were subsequently asked to return to work until the end of their notice period. As a result, Ghost Recon OVR and the Director’s Cut of Watch Dogs Legion will get some additional support for two months.
