The Leon and Grace’s playable sections in Resident Evil Requiem will be split evenly

This week saw the reveal of a poorly kept secret. Leon Kennedy is indeed the second playable character in Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom has provided information about his addition to the game’s story.

In an interview with Automaton, director Akifumi Nakanishi said that the sections devoted to Leon and Grace Ashcroft are divided almost equally. The former will have action-oriented sections, while the latter will opt for a more horror-oriented epic. The whole thing will form a single story. The two protagonists will also cross paths.

“Requiem offers a single, unified story. As the narrative progresses, we alternate between Leon’s and Grace’s storylines. There are even scenes where they meet. Grace is the biggest scaredy-cat in the entire Resident Evil saga, while Leon is a seasoned veteran. Watching the interaction between these two personalities is an integral part of the game’s appeal.

In terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon’s playable phases are divided almost equally. The structure is similar to that of Resident Evil Revelations.”

Nakanishi added that Grace’s gameplay is based on that of Resident Evil 2, while Leon’s will be inspired by Resident Evil 4 with hand-to-hand combat.

“I’ve already said that Leon isn’t cut out for horror. The quiet passages where you hide from monsters don’t suit him, so his chapters focus on intense, adrenaline-fueled action. Grace’s passages, on the other hand, are the scariest. This time around, we’re really emphasizing the difference between their experiences.”
