The Legend of Zelda Gets Free FPS Makeover For PC

The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System has never looked stranger in this first-person shooter makeover, free on PC right now.

Those who played the OG Legend of Zelda game recently will know it hasn’t really aged too well.

It was from an era where the brand-new game you just bought needed to last so you were on your own as far as progression was concerned.

Vague text boxes, no world map and no handy internet to look up where to go on. You’d have to rely on word-of-mouth, game guides or simply your own problem-solving skills.

Nevertheless it was incredible for its time, and it’s nice to look back on where the series started and compare it to where it is now with games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

If you’d like to experience this game in a totally different way though, keep reading, as this awesome PC mod turns Hyrule into a Doom level.

Rip And Tear Until Ganon Is Done

Legend of Doom is a total conversion mod for DOOM II, which faithfully recreates the OG Hyrule along with all of its enemies/residents.

Instead of firing bullets it takes advantage of the ranged attack Link gets when he has all of his health, but you can also utilise some of his other gadgets like the shield and bombs.

Doom fans needn’t worry either, Doomguy’s iconic face is still permanently visible at the bottom of the screen, and he even gets to wear Link’s hat which oddly suits him.

Honestly it’s bizarre to see the OG Hyrule from this perspective. Since the game is top-down it’s a lot easier to keep distance between hordes of enemies and be selective about which battles you pick when on low health.

You can’t do that here though as everything is in your face and wants your blood.

Everything has been so faithfully recreated though that you could easily mistake it for something Nintendo actually cooked up. It’s stellar quality for a freebie.

If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself you can play it for free on PC right now via ModDB
