The head of Assassin’s Creed has left Ubisoft

The Video Games Chronicle website reported this week that Marc-Alexis Coté, who has been in charge of the Assassin’s Creed franchise since 2022, has decided to leave Ubisoft. His departure comes two weeks after the launch of the new subsidiary financed by Tencent.

An internal memo was sent to employees to announce the news. It thanked Marc-Alexis Coté for his various contributions. He worked on the franchise for almost 20 years. He was notably co-director of Assassin’s Creed III and even creative director on Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Since then, he has served as producer on each installment and led the global teams working on the various games.

The email written by the co-CEOs of Vantage Studios (the new subsidiary in charge of Assassin’s Creed), Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes, provides us with some information. For example, we learn that Coté was offered a management position within the famous subsidiary. An offer that he declined.

“While we are disappointed by his decision, we understand and respect that MAC had his own expectations and priorities related to Vantage Studios’ creation and future.

Unfortunately, despite being offered several opportunities to be part of the leadership team shaping our strategic direction, MAC respectfully declined and decided to look to start his next chapter elsewhere.

Let me close by offering our deep gratitude for MAC’s many contributions over the years. As Executive Producer and VP for Assassin’s Creed, he has been instrumental in AC’s success, and his impact has been felt across our teams and our players.”
