The Game Awards 2025: Control Resonant Is Coming Next Year

Remedy Entertainment has announced Control Resonant, a direct and long-awaited sequel to one of their most beloved games.

Picking up seven years later, Control Resonant passes the playable torch to Dylan Faden, the brother of Jesse, the original playable heroine. Jesse’s search for Dylan inside the Federal Bureau of Control’s HQ, the Oldest House, was the focus of the first game, and next year players will get to experience Dylan’s side of the story.

A trailer, which interwove with a brief on-stage “performance” at The Game Awards, showcased the reality-warping setting with psychedelic effects (up to, and including, a kaleidoscopic array of pigeons), and teased some stunning melee combat that marks a considerable departure from Jesse’s playstyle.

Deployed by his former captors, Dylan will utilize newfound elemental powers—including a shapeshifting melee weapon called the Aberrant—to defend Manhattan from supernatural threats. Along the way the environment will warp dynamically, driving Dylan to tap into and master those abilities, shaping them with his choices to face the threats he faces along the way.

“Control Resonant pushes our paranatural action RPG series into an expansive, reality-warping playground of choice, power, and consequence,” said Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen in a press release.

“You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience. It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it.”

As a direct successor to a former Game of the Year contender, Control Resonant has big shoes to fill—and given Remedy’s pedigree with series like Alan Wake and Max Payne, it looks like they’re swinging for the fences once again.

Control Resonant is slated to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games, and Mac.
